Things To Do
Motorbike (or car)
trips: explore the
surrounding area. Rent motorbikes and head out on the quiet
local roads through rubber, teak and coconut plantations with
picturesque views and discover beautiful beaches, waterfalls and
river gorges. We provide
with suggested itineraries and you can use them to explore. This is
the best way to get around and even when it's raining it's never
cold. Getting out in the morning
is best.
Trekking, hiking, birding
and animal watching in Gunung Halimun. This National Park is a secret treasure
and has unique flora and fauna, some found nowhere else in the
world, over a variety of habitats from 500m to 1900m. The South part
of the Park is the most preserved and is accessed from near the
resort, and the terrain spans rivers, waterfalls, canyons and
tropical forest. The elevation makes for a pleasant climate. More
than 200 species of birds are recorded including the rare Javan Hawk
Eagle, Hornbills, brilliant black and scarlet Sunda Minivets,
Racket-tailed Drongos and the rare Javan Laughing Thrush. Primates
include the endangered Javan gibbon, the Javan Leaf-monkey and the
Black leaf monkey. Muncak and wild pig are also present. The
flora is no less rich. Giant hardwood timber trees, Rasamala and
Meranti, lianas and orchids are a few. We arrange guides,
porters, packed lunch and drinks and suggest trails, and can provide
check lists of birds. Treks are best started early and range
from a few hours to all day.
Surfing. Surfing along this coast is world class, with great sites at
Cimaja, Indicators, Ombak Tujuh Suwarna, Ujung Genteng and others unnamed
and undiscovered, some accessible, some remote. The main season is
May until October, but some breaks work all year round.
White-water
rafting. The
famous Citarik river cascades down to the coast from Gunung Halimun
through lush rice paddies, towering gorges and virgin forest. A
range of full, half day, and over night trips are offered. The
Cimandiri and Cicatih are alternative rivers coming off Gunung Salak
and Gede, with rapids up to grade five. The climate is perfect for
rafting, and the waters coming off Halimun are clean.
Caving. High rainfall,
multiple rivers and limestone are the perfect combination for cave creation.
These are spectacular, abundant and rarely entered and beg the adventurous to
explore them.
Deep-sea
fishing. Fishing
can be organised from Pelabuhan Ratu the local harbour town, and
boats range from Grand Banks with full tackle to local craft. The
deep trenches off the South coast of Java bring nutrients into the
bay that make great fishing. A trip to the fish market shows the
ocean has a plentiful supply of sharks, stingrays, sailfish, and
tuna.
Scuba
diving. Divers can
experience the diverse wealth of tropical marine life around
coral-encrusted volcanic outcrops to the South of the bay. Several
sites exist and the fish life is abundant and large. A dive camp
runs out of Pelabuhan Ratu.
Boat
Trips. Take a local
fishing boat West along the pristine and stunning coast, and explore
the headlands, reefs, caves, beaches and cliffs. The coral growth is
pretty and snappers, groupers and fish life are also common. Pick a
secluded beach and stop there for lunch. Good sea birding and swifts
nesting in cliffs.
Massage. Well, you don't actually have to do anything, but after all
these activities a massage on your own cabana by one of our in house
massage ladies is well deserved.
